His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Suroor Al Nahyan signed an agreement on Tuesday 3 June 2014 with Ali Mohamed Sadeq Al Baloushi, chairman of the Ghantoot Group, accompanied by Eng. Sami Al Khuwaiter, the Projects Director of Sheikh Suroor Projects Department (SSPD), to develop a luxury beach resort on Saadiyat Island, Abu Dhabi.

The agreement between SSPD and Ghantoot Group marks the start of the Dhs860 million Saadiyat Island Resort Development project, due to be completed by the end of 2017.

The luxury resort, designed by DBI Design – the architects behind the iconic Etihad Towers development in Abu Dhabi – will consist of a low-rise 295-room hotel comprised of four wings, a standalone spa and wellness centre, gymnasium, as well as state-of-the-art meeting rooms. The resort will be immaculately landscaped and will also include 11 luxury two-story villas, including one exclusive private villa.

Projects Director at SSPD Eng. Sami Al Khuwaiter said: “The Saadiyat Island Resort will be a world-class luxury destination at the heart of the UAE’s capital and is the latest in SSPD’s long line of developments, all aimed at creating regional landmarks with the utmost quality.”

Ghantoot Group is one of the region’s leading construction, development and service groups specialising in civil engineering, electrical projects, road construction and transport and marine services. The group’s building division, founded in 1985, has been involved in many projects, most notably the Abu Dhabi Presidential Palace.
