Marriott International has unveiled plans to expand its presence in Kenya with the development of two new luxury tented safari camps: The Ritz-Carlton, Masai Mara Safari Camp and the JW Marriott Mount Kenya Rhino Reserve Safari Camp. This move underscores the company's commitment to its luxury portfolio and offering unique travel experiences in Africa.
Expected to open in August 2025, The Ritz-Carlton, Masai Mara Safari Camp will bring the brand's renowned service and elegant design to the heart of the Masai Mara National Reserve. This iconic location is famous for its abundant wildlife, stunning landscapes and the Great Migration. The camp will be nestled amongst trees on a secluded island, offering picturesque views of the Sand River and the surrounding forest, providing guests with prime viewing of the Great Migration. The camp is planned to feature 20 tented suites, including a four-bedroom presidential suite, each with separate living areas, private plunge pools and both indoor and outdoor showers. Guests can anticipate a range of dining options, including a multi-cuisine restaurant, a wine cellar, a stargazing deck and an authentic boma. A spa and wellness centre, outdoor gym, swimming pool and other leisure facilities will also be available. The camp will offer curated game drives and cultural experiences. The JW Marriott Mount Kenya Rhino Reserve Safari Camp, expected to open in early 2026, will provide a luxurious retreat in the Solio Game Reserve. Situated between Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Mountains, the camp will offer an immersive wildlife experience within the 45,000-acre game reserve and the 19,000-acre Solio Ranch Conservancy. This conservancy is internationally recognized for its successful rhino breeding programme, offering guests the chance for unparalleled encounters with white and endangered black rhinos, as well as other wildlife. The camp is planned to feature 20 tented units, including two two-bedroom suites with private plunge pools. Design plans include multiple wellness spaces, a JW Garden, four dining venues, a Spa by JW, a swimming pool, a fitness centre, a conservation house, a horse barn and an animal viewing hide. Activities will include guided horse-riding safaris, night game drives, nature walks, quad biking, and visits to a rhino orphanage. * Find Marriott International on stand HC2110
