Sardinia's Hotel Cala di Volpe set to reopen

Share

The iconic Hotel Cala di Volpe, an Italian architectural marvel, which will open doors for the season on April 18 following a transformative renovation, is inviting GCC travellers to discover its offerings.

Nestled amidst Sardinia’s famed Costa Smeralda, the resort, which provided the backdrop for 007’s ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’, stands as beacon of timeless elegance and modern sophistication, promising an inspiring and design-led escape.

Conceived in the 1960s by acclaimed architect and sculptor Jacques Couëlle, Hotel Cala di Volpe was modelled on the aesthetics of an ancient fishing village, sculpted by the wind and surrounded by an idyllic natural landscape of turquoise waters, sinuous mountains, and lush Mediterranean greenery.

The renovation of the property was led by esteemed French architects Bruno Moinard and Claire Bétaille of 4BI & Associés. The duo has masterfully created a harmonious fusion of heritage and innovation, from the kaleidoscopic glass, wood and decorated plaster walls to the silky terracotta and fabrics that adorn the property.

The 121 meticulously renovated rooms and suites – some of which have been redesigned by Italian architecture firm Dordoni Architetti – showcase the region's splendour and exceptional design, elevating the guest experience to unparalleled heights.

Among these, The Harrods Suite stands as the crown jewel of Hotel Cala di Volpe. Developed in collaboration with the Harrods Interior Design Studio, this penthouse masterpiece features three distinct suites, each with private baths, expansive living areas, a secure vaulted wine cellar housing an exquisite collection, a cigar humidor, and a splendid marble bar complemented by cutting-edge entertainment technology. The private rooftop terrace offers a raised infinity pool with an integrated bar, sunbathing deck, and al fresco dining, promising the quintessential Sardinian gateway.

With its vibrant dining concepts and extensive sport and wellness offerings, the hotel continues to define itself as a destination within a destination - celebrating its rich legacy and playful spirit while meeting the expectations of contemporary luxury hospitality. Eccentric details, bursts of colour, flowing lines, dense walls and custom-made furnishings converge to seamlessly integrate architecture, nature and tradition across every facet of the property.

The dining journey starts with the exclusive BeefBar, renowned for its premium-sourced meat, and the acclaimed Matsuhisa, which brings exceptional Nobu-style Japanese cuisine to the heart of Costa Smeralda. While sumptuous Sardinian and Mediterranean buffets await at Cala di Volpe Barbeque, Le Grand, the hotel’s award-winning fine dining restaurant, invites guests to indulge in elevated cuisine within a timeless setting. The experience continues with aperitifs on the panoramic terrace of The Atrium Bar, and traditional Sardinian dishes at Ai Due Mari, located at the nearby Pevero Golf Club - each venue offering a unique perspective of Cala di Volpe’s rich culinary world.

Wellbeing is equally prioritised. The award-winning Shiseido Spa invites guests to indulge in a holistic escape that blends Japanese rituals and modern science, offering a range of signature treatments designed to restore balance and tranquillity. Surrounded by soothing design elements, it’s a sanctuary for mind and body alike.

With a saltwater swimming pool – one of the largest of its kind in Europe – a pristine private beach, and curated experiences that showcase Sardinia’s natural beauty, Hotel Cala di Volpe is a celebration of elegance, leisure, and Mediterranean glamour.

Guests can train at the indoor gym and its outdoor extension, play on state-of-the-art tennis and padel courts, or enjoy a friendly match on the five-a-side football pitch. The nearby Pevero Golf Club offers spectacular views and access to the Francesco Molinari Academy. Younger guests are invited to enjoy the Kids Club and the Juventus Resort Experience, where fun and learning go hand in hand.

With twice weekly direct flights from Dubai International Airport to Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport from June to August, in addition to several daily connecting flights from international airports in Milan and Rome, the island is easily accessible from throughout the GCC, making it the perfect destination to soak in the beauty of Italy.
