October in Malta offers more than Mediterranean sunshine, with a packed calendar of cultural, sporting and heritage events giving travellers plenty of reasons to plan an autumn escape.
The month begins with the Malta Classic, running October 1–4,
when vintage cars take to the historic streets around Mdina for hill climbs,
displays and the headline Mdina Grand Prix.
On October 3, Notte Bianca transforms Valletta into a
city-wide celebration of art and culture, with music, dance and performances
filling streets and public spaces after dark.
Music lovers can enjoy Jazz… Unplugged at Pjazza Teatru Rjal
on October 12, offering an intimate evening of jazz in the former Royal Opera
House.
Sailing takes centre stage on October 17 with the Rolex
Middle Sea Race, as an international fleet departs Malta’s Grand Harbour for
the 606-nautical-mile race towards Sicily.
For a more atmospheric experience, BirguFest brings
thousands of candles and traditional lamps to the historic streets of Birgu,
creating a distinctive evening setting. The 2026 dates are yet to be confirmed.
Opera enthusiasts can cross to Gozo on October 17 for
Verdi’s La Traviata at Teatru tal-Opra Aurora in Victoria, part of celebrations
marking the venue’s 50th anniversary.
Rounding out the month, the Three Palaces Festival, from October
28 to November 1, brings music to
Malta’s historic palaces, combining performances with the islands’
architectural heritage.
Together, the events offer visitors a different way to
experience Malta, blending history, culture, music, motorsport and the
