Qatar Football Association (QFA) is progressing with its plans to reconstruct the Al Rayyan Stadium located 20 km northwest of Doha, Qatar. The new 43,000-seat Al Rayyan Stadium will be a major venue for World Cup 2022 to be held in Qatar. In October 2014 the demolition contract was awarded to Manco International General Contracting and the deconstruction started. The stadium will be complete in the first quarter of 2019. After the World Cup, a modular upper tier will be disassembled and used to build football facilities in developing countries. It will reduce the stadium’s capacity to 20,000. The stadium will have a "media membrane" facade around its whole exterior as a giant screen to project match updates and tournament news. It will include a 500 sq m conference room, parking for 6,000 cars and 350 buses, a 7,000 sq m media centre. The stadium and training sites, which will be cooled using environmentally-friendly technology will contain a social club, a cricket ground, trails for running or walking, and an array of sporting and civic facilities. CH2M Hill is the supervision consultant, Albert Speers and RFA Fenwick Iribarren is the architect consultant, Aecom is the PMC, and Ramboll is the design consultant.

- 7,000 sq m media center

October 2012 - The Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee signed five stakeholder cooperation agreements with Qatar Rail, Ashghal, Kahramaa, Aspire Zone Foundation and Qatari Diar. February 2012 - Program Management Consultant (PMC) contract was awarded to CH2M Hill. June 2011 - A Supreme Committee was appointed by Emiri Decision to manage the design of the stadiums.
