AROYA, the first ship from Saudi Arabia’s Aroya Cruises, made waves not only on the Red Sea during its maiden voyage in December but across the global cruise industry With AROYA’s debut journey offering a distinctive Arabian experience on the Red Sea, the ship captivated the cruise community with its exceptional facilities and hospitality. Initially targeting families and Middle Eastern guests, Aroya Cruises represents the region’s first foray into the cruise sector, navigating a market traditionally dominated by well-established global players. Offering an unparalleled cruising experience that embodies the warmth and generosity synonymous with Arabian culture, Aroya Cruises seamlessly combines luxurious amenities with culturally immersive experiences, positioning itself as a trailblazer in the world of cruising.TTN, privileged to be part of this historic maiden voyage, spoke with Turky Kari, Executive Director of Marketing Communications at Aroya Cruises. In this exclusive interview, Kari shares insights into what sets this ambitious venture apart, its unique offerings, and the vision steering its course forward.
Speaking about the distinctive features of AROYA, Kari highlighted: “AROYA is the first-ever Arabian cruise line, offering voyages on the Red Sea. Although AROYA focuses on catering to local and regional guests with a culturally unique holiday, it also has something to suit a variety of cruise passengers. It offers not only a culturally immersive experience with a focus on authentic Arabian experiences but also exceptional dining, excellent spa facilities, and family-friendly adventures, including a water park and a virtual reality experience.
“AROYA will be visiting lesser-known cruising destinations. It is currently sailing the Red Sea, with stops at destinations including Saba Beach on Jabal Al-Sabaya, Cruise Saudi’s recently developed private cruise island, Jordan, and Egypt.” THE KHUZAMA EXPERIENCE
A major highlight of AROYA is its Khuzama experience, designed to provide luxury seekers with an elevated and enriched experience from the moment they step on board. Combining comfort and relaxation with Arabian hospitality, Khuzama promises guests an unparalleled luxury experience at sea.
There are 140 VIP suites and 10 villas for Khuzama guests, each featuring walk-in wardrobes, spacious balconies, and luxurious bath amenities, as well as plenty of space. Passengers benefit from enhancements such as complimentary Wi-Fi, priority embarkation and disembarkation, luggage delivery, and a dedicated butler service.
Beyond the accommodations, guests can enjoy the exclusive Khuzama Restaurant and Khuzama Lounge. The restaurant offers a rotating menu blending Saudi and French cuisine, while the 24-hour lounge provides a comfortable space for drinks and light bites at any time of day.
“The Khuzama Suites have received overwhelmingly positive feedback, with guests praising the spacious, beautifully designed cabins equipped to the highest standards of comfort and privacy. The decor blends modern luxury with cultural influences from the region, creating a warm and inviting environment. Premium amenities and private balconies further enhance the experience for those seeking ultimate comfort at sea,” said Kari. FAMILY FOCUS
Kari explained that AROYA is focused on Middle Eastern guests during its initial phase of operation. “With shisha lounges and women-only pool hours, AROYA has tailored the experience specifically with regional guests in mind.
“Families are also a key target for AROYA. Our extensive family offerings – including one of the largest kids’ clubs at sea, a kids’ chef’s academy, zip lines, escape rooms, hands-on arts and crafts, interactive games, a family-friendly pool, and entertainment – make it an excellent holiday choice for families from the region. Everyone is welcome on board AROYA.” MICE OPPORTUNITIES
While AROYA is family-oriented, it also caters to the Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions (MICE) sector. Kari elaborated: “Although predominantly aimed at families, AROYA also serves the MICE sector with world-class meeting facilities, unique event spaces – such as the 1,018-seat, state-of-the-art AROYA Theatre – and bespoke services for corporate groups. On board, there are dedicated meeting and conference rooms equipped with the latest technology and services to ensure a productive and seamless working environment.”
Kari believes the international cruising community will also be keen to try AROYA.
“Although tailored to Arabian preferences, AROYA combines the facilities, amenities, and high standards seen across the cruise industry, which will resonate with travellers from around the world.
“Given that the majority of cruisers are repeat cruisers, people are always looking for new experiences, and AROYA Cruises offers exactly that. AROYA allows guests to experience the Red Sea, which has not been a prominent destination for international cruise lines in recent years. This presents a fantastic opportunity for guests to explore the region.”
Additionally, with the growing demand for more inclusive and diverse travel experiences, AROYA offers an exciting new option for those seeking authentic cruising experiences. Guests looking to explore new destinations, cultural diversity, and premium amenities will find AROYA appealing.
Guests on board may also be inspired to visit Saudi Arabia more extensively, following a positive cultural experience on board. From 2025, AROYA will visit Jordan and Egypt, offering international guests the chance to explore the wider region.
