Thailand-based Onyx Hospitality Group currently manages 55 properties, including 18 under development. Its plan is to up this number and manage manage 81 hotels, resorts and serviced apartments by 2018.
As Onyx’s portfolio continues to grow across the upscale and mid-market segment, Europe continues to be an important source market, with the region currently representing the second largest share of visitors to Onyx properties.With nine properties launched last year, the group’s brands have been conquering new markets, including Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Mid-range brand Ozo is growing fast and saw three openings last year with Ozo Chaweng Samui (the brand’s first resort), Ozo Pattaya and Ozo Colombo, the first of three Onyx properties in Sri Lanka.As well as new properties joining the group, Onyx has also been reinvesting into its existing portfolio, recently completing renovations at Amari Watergate Bangkok and Amari Phuket. The expansion on the latter property will increase its total inventory by 75 per cent to a total of 345 rooms. Amari Palm Reef Samui has closed since last month to undergo a complete renovation and will reopen in April next year.When it opens this month, Ozo Kandy will become the second Ozo property in Sri Lanka and the fifth Ozo property for the brand. Amari Havodda Maldives will open first quarter 2016, while Amari Pecatu Bali will open in 2017. Also opening in 2017 is the 172-room Amari Galle Sri Lanka. By 2022, Onyx plans to operate 10 properties in India through three key developments, firstly with the opening of Amari Noida, the brand’s premier Indian property located in the NCR (National Capital Region) and a part of the World Trade Centre Noida. It will feature 120 rooms, with an additional 30 residences, three restaurants, meeting and convention space, pool, fitness centre and a spa. The project will begin in 2016 and be operational by 2019.The second project will be an Amari Residences in the World Trade Centre development in Gujarat’s new central business district.
