Sofitel Dubai The Obelisk has been awarded Gold Tier – the highest rating achievable - from the Dubai Sustainable Tourism Stamp. The new initiative, set by Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) recognises hotels with the highest adherence to their 19 Sustainability Requirements which include food and water management plans, energy, employee training initiatives and corporate social responsibility.
Food waste management and the elimination of single use plastic have been paramount in the property’s operations, championed by Executive Hotel Chef Russell Impiazzi with support from General Manager Luciano Fontana, and upheld by a dedicated Sustainability Committee. In its efforts to eliminate single-use plastic, such water bottles have been removed from guest rooms and suites, and replaced with an in-house water filtration and glass bottling system in partnership with the Dubai Can project. Beyond the kitchen, energy-efficient fixtures and monitoring throughout the hotel have resulted in a 36.97 per cent decrease in energy consumption.
