Hamad International Airport (HIA) and Qatar Airways have launched the Fast Pass biometric service, developed with technology partner SITA, to deliver a more seamless and paperless departure experience for passengers.
The facial recognition-based solution allows travellers to
use their face as a boarding pass across key airport touchpoints, including
check-in, baggage drop, security, and boarding.
The system connects more than 700 biometric-enabled
touchpoints, making it one of the largest biometric passenger processing
initiatives in the Middle East and globally.
Passengers can register through self-service check-in kiosks
at HIA or via the Qatar Airways mobile app before using dedicated Fast Pass
lanes.
Designed to reduce document checks and waiting times,
especially during peak travel periods, the service completes identity
verification within seconds.
Participation remains optional, with traditional processing
options and airport assistance still available.
The launch comes as demand for biometric travel solutions
continues to rise worldwide, with industry research showing growing passenger
preference for digital identity verification.
As part of HIA’s Innovation Roadmap, Fast Pass will be
expanded to additional touchpoints and may eventually be offered to other
airlines operating from the airport, further advancing digital transformation
in air travel. -TradeArabia News Service
