Cruising is rapidly evolving toward more curated, experience-driven travel, with luxury, expedition, personalisation, and sustainability shaping the sector’s future.
This transformation will be a central focus at ITB China 2026, taking place from May 26–28 in Shanghai, both on the exhibition floor and within the conference programme.According to the
Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) State of the Cruise Industry
Report 2025, global passenger numbers are projected to rise from 34.6 million
in 2024 to 37.7 million in 2025, reflecting strong demand increasingly oriented
toward high-value, experience-led offerings.
The industry is
undergoing a structural shift where differentiation is driven less by scale and
more by experience design.
Key trends include
strong growth in luxury and expedition cruising, rising demand for small-ship
and remote-destination travel, AI-enabled personalisation across the guest journey, and increasing
sustainability pressures influencing fleet design, itineraries, and destination
management.
Together, these forces
are accelerating a move toward more immersive, tailored, and responsible travel
experiences.
ITB China 2026 will
showcase this evolution through a diverse lineup of global exhibitors,
including major cruise brands, expedition operators, and river cruise
specialists such as Royal Caribbean International, Oceanwide Expeditions, Quark
Expeditions, CroisiEurope Cruises, and Swan Hellenic.
Additional niche and
regional operators further highlight the market’s growing segmentation and
specialisation.
Cruising will also
feature prominently in the conference’s Customised Travel segment, emphasising its role in
highly personalised travel ecosystems.
Discussions will
explore how Chinese travellers are redefining cruise experiences, what is
driving growth in expedition and small-ship segments, and how AI is
transforming service delivery and sales. Sustainability will remain a key
theme, particularly balancing market growth with environmental and capacity
challenges. -TradeArabia News Service
