Virgin Hotels Edinburgh has unveiled Spellbound, a new suite inspired by the history, architecture and creative spirit of Edinburgh’s Old Town, offering guests an immersive stay within the city’s historic India Buildings.
Located in part of the original Category A-listed 1864
structure, the suite retains several historic architectural features and
features a hand-painted mural by Edinburgh artist Lynsey Jean Henderson,
created with fellow artists Innes Maxwell Maran and Grace Maran of The
Marangerie.
Inspired by medieval art, illuminated manuscripts and
discoveries uncovered during the building’s redevelopment, the mural depicts
woodland, mythical creatures and celestial skies, combining Edinburgh’s
historic character with contemporary local creativity.
Henderson said: “Edinburgh is such a rich source of
inspiration because there is always another story, detail or hidden corner to
discover. For the Spellbound Suite, I wanted the artwork to feel as though it
belonged to the building and had evolved from the character of the city around
it, while still creating a sense of escapism. It has been exciting to see the
space transform into something that encourages guests to pause, explore and let
their imagination take over.”
The suite includes a starlit attic retreat, twin beds, a
daybed, movie wall, reading nook and family-focused amenities. Adults can also
enjoy a king-size bed, rainfall shower and premium ARRAN toiletries.

suite that felt playful and immersive without being limited to one type of

looking for somewhere that feels a little different. Our Artist in Residence
programme has been such an important part of connecting the hotel with the
local creative community, and Lynsey’s work has brought that vision to life
beautifully.”
The suite forms part of the hotel’s Artist in Residence
programme, which supports local creatives while connecting visitors with
Edinburgh’s arts scene.
Located near the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle, Spellbound
aims to make the city’s culture and sense of discovery part of the hotel
