Budapest Airport, operated by Vinci Airports, said that Wizz Air will introduce four year-round routes – two new destinations and the revival of two links – starting this winter, and all to be operated by the state-of-the-art Airbus A321NEO aircraft.
These services mark a significant expansion of the airport’s network, offering more travel options and destinations for the Hungarian gateway’s passengers, a statement said. Launching in late October, a new route to Marrakech will operate twice-weekly on Tuesdays and Saturdays. This route revives a connection to Morocco that has not been served since 2019, becoming the sole direct link from Budapest to the North Africa country. Having previously been operated by Ryanair in 2018-2019, the return of the popular route will cater to many Hungarian travellers. Genoa will become a brand-new destination on Budapest’s network, operating three-times weekly from late October. This addition has long been anticipated by the airport and Wizz Air, with key traffic drivers including the significant cruise business and the appeal of the destination primarily for Hungarian customers who previously travelled via Milan. Another new destination will be added to the route map from late October as a three-times weekly service to Girona will begin. The Catalonian city’s proximity to Southern France and the Pyrenees will add significant value to the airport’s portfolio. Commencing on 17 December, a link to Memmingen will operate four-times weekly. This service revives a connection to the Bavarian town that has not been offered since 2012, when it was previously operated by Ryanair. Memmingen's proximity to Munich (116 km) makes it an ideal alternative for travel to and from Bavaria and Western Austria. With this expansion and further frequency increases to be announced from October, Wizz Air will offer an additional half a million seats annually from Budapest, enhancing connectivity for the airport’s passengers. Máté Ritter, Head of Airline Development, Budapest Airport, said: "We have worked closely with Wizz Air to bring these exciting new routes to our passengers. “This expansion is a great revival and introduction of destinations to our route map. We look forward to seeing more travellers enjoy the convenience and new destinations offered by Budapest Airport." – TradeArabia News Service
