Fifty-eight per cent of UAE residents who responded to a survey said they like to explore the world, just behind South Africa who ranked first with 64%.

When asked which factors impact choosing a destination, distance and familiarity with the country do not deter these avid travellers, according to the report titled “The State of Travel Today” from leading PR consultancy group Travel Lifestyle Network (TLN). The research is compiled by travel think tank Thrive and market intelligence firm AudienceNet, from 179,446 respondents in 28 countries during the first quarter of 2022.

Just 8% said distance to travel is a consideration to choosing a destination.

The study also revealed only 6% need to have travelled to a location before or be familiar with it to select their destination and just 13% are fazed by ease of travelling (such as a direct journey, visa and vaccination requirements).

“Travel is back with a vengeance and in a post-pandemic world, many are ready to travel even further than before to make their bucket list dreams happen,” said Isabel Tapp, Founder & CEO of AllDetails, the Travel Lifestyle Network’s Middle East Agency.

“It’s no secret that residents of the UAE are in a unique position to travel, both geographically and with the nation having quickly recovered from the pandemic. With many countries reopening this year, citizens and residents are ready to discover new destinations and cultural experiences: the world is their oyster.”

In line with the other countries surveyed, value for money (32%) and looking forward to a relaxing experience (22%) were the top two contributing factors for picking a destination.

Frequent flyers
UAE residents and citizens are the most likely of all countries surveyed to take a medium or long-haul vacation abroad once a year or more for leisure with 56% saying they typically travel overseas, either on a medium or long-haul flight. Singapore and Saudi Arabia came in equal second with 51% of residents from both countries usually travelling overseas more than once a year.

One in three (34%) respondents plan to purchase travel tickets (e.g. a flight) in the next three to six months, while 19% plan on locking in a holiday abroad. Domestic travel remains popular with 19% planning to book a vacation within the UAE in the next few months. – TradeArabia News Service
