As the Yas Island Rotana and Centro Yas Island properties turn three, general manager Patrick Martinez speaks to TTN about plans ahead.

How was the hotels’ performance in 2012?

2011 has been a good year for Yas Island Rotana & Centro Yas Island. We are projecting to finish the year with a double digit growth versus 2011. After only three years of operation, both our hotels at Yas Island are already averaging 75 per cent to 85 per cent occupancy year round.

With the opening of Yas Waterworld and the beach, are you expecting a boost in leisure business?

Yes, the leisure market will grow with this new water park attraction on Yas. Feeding market will come mainly from GCC countries, UK, Germany, CIS countries and India.

What are your plans to ensure your market share with the opening of new hotels in the city and surroundings?

We will do our utmost indeed to maintain our market share if not growing it further. With the fifth Centro hotel having opened three months ago we are seeing this brand well accepted in the market and getting stronger and stronger.

What new tactics are you using to promote your business and differentiate your product from the competition?

We are committed to deliver our promises, both in product and service. Secondly, we are leveraging our tactical offers with our award winning loyalty program, the Rotana Rewards. The number of loyal members is increasing every year and this is something to be proud of.

As the hotels turn three, what events do you believe will bring more footfalls to the Island?

Besides the Yas beach which is now open, the long awaited Yas Mall will be a key contributor to take this destination to the next step. The various concerts and events organised by Flash will help us to keep the momentum as a vibrant and exciting leisure destination.
