Iceland is the best destination among developed countries for adventure tourists, while Slovakia takes the top spot among developing nations, according to a recently released study.
The Adventure Tourism Development Index was put together by the Adventure Travel Trade Association in conjunction with George Washington University and Xola Consulting.
The joint effort examines 192 countries and ranks them based on their commitment to sustainable adventure tourism, as well as a number of other factors that influence their ability to host an adventure travel market and offer unique experiences to travellers.
The top ten developed countries are Iceland, Switzerland, New Zealand, the UK, Australia, Luxembourg, Denmark, Ireland, Germany and Spain, while the top ten developing countries are the Slovak Republic, Israel, Czech Republic, Estonia, Slovenia, Chile, Bulgaria, Latvia, Botswana and Lithuania.
