Inside Abu Dhabi Duty Free

ABU Dhabi Duty Free (ADDF), the Middle East’s number one retailer by customer spend and second largest by turnover, has announced a first as Abu Dhabi International Airport prepares to launch the only 48-hour Arrivals Shop concept in the region.

“We are proud to be the first in the region to be offering this service and convenience to passengers through Abu Dhabi International Airport,” said Mohammed Mounib, commercial director, Abu Dhabi Airports Company.
Software will be operational at the shop so as to track all passenger allowances and so will be able to confirm each traveller’s eligibility for duty free goods. This system will also apply if a passenger only claims part of their allowance, enabling them to make multiple returns for the remainder within 48 hours.
The ADDF has launched its annual summer retail promotion in partnership with Damac Properties, the ‘Win Your Dreams’ it offers three prizes: a Damac luxury apartment at Reem Island, Abu Dhabi, a BMW Z4 sports car and a cash prize of Dh100,000.  The promotion runs until October 15.
ADDF reported a 33.26 per cent increase in turnover for the first half of 2007 over the same period in 2006. Departing passengers increased their expenditure by 10.5 per cent with an impressive $51 per passenger recorded over the same period.
“The first half of 2007 has been an exciting time for all of us at Abu Dhabi Duty Free and we are delighted that the first-half results reflect the steady and extremely strong start we have been realising right from the beginning of the year,” said Niveen Ibrahim, general manager, Abu Dhabi Duty Free.
