Online benchmarking by TRI
TRI Hospitality Consulting (Middle East) Limited is to market The Bench, an online Hotel Benchmarking System that delivers essential comparative performance data for hotels on a daily basis, throughout the Middle East.

The Bench is the leading edge product that was developed and launched in Sweden some three years ago and now used by over 800 hotels throughout Europe as an essential tool for increasing RevPar penetration. Using any Internet connection, participating properties can use The Bench to compare their hotel’s performance against the market on a daily basis, in terms of average daily rate, average occupancy and RevPar.

DCA holds training forum
The Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) held its First Annual e.Training Forum under the patronage of  Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, president of the Department of Civil Aviation and chairman of Emirates Group. The e.Training Forum was an international platform designed to facilitate the exchange of information and ideas on latest research, developments, and applications of a broad range of issues related to e-training, training/learning and development. Sheikh Ahmed said: “e-training is an approach to fostering the learning objectives of our employees, broadening their knowledge and further enhancing their competency. This is a step forward in creating and enabling a uniform learning environment at the Department of Civil Aviation, Dubai.  “The rapid development in telecommunication and technology industries has lead to a complete transformation in the way we look at knowledge enhancement. Our e-training initiative is both a very logical and indispensable move in the world of learning and development.”

Sheikh Ahmed is patron for AHIC
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman of Emirates, has been announced as patron at the Arabian Hotel Investment Conference (AHIC) in Dubai. Sheikh Ahmed said: “Arabia is one of the world’s fastest-growing regions for travel and tourism and tourism is driving the economies for many of these countries. “Turning to Dubai specifically, we have been set stringent targets for tourism growth, with 15 million visitors expected by 2010. The drive to attract inward investment into the tourism sector will continue to be key throughout the region over the next decade.” Jonathan Worsley, organiser of AHIC, said: “We are delighted to have Sheikh Ahmed on board as our patron, as his insight from years at the helm of one of the world’s leading brands will be extremely valuable. The growth of Emirates and the development of Dubai has gone hand-in-hand, and will provide a case study for years to come.”
