Munich Airport, Bavaria, has retained its title as a "5-Star Airport" in a renewed audit by London-based aviation institute, Skytrax.
"5 stars for Bavaria's gateway to the world has been accorded for the fourth time in a row. With this highest accolade from Skytrax, Munich Airport remains Germany's only “5-Star Airport” and is one of the three “5-Star Airports” in Europe, said Bavarian Minister of Finance and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Munich Airport, Albert Furacke. Skytrax experts had a close look at the quality of service and the quality of stay at the airport as part of a re-audit and subsequently awarded the Bavarian air traffic hub the “5-Star” quality seal once again. The auditor's said: Munich Airport was able to maintain its high quality despite the major challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. In making its assessment, Skytrax focused on the projects and measures implemented since the “5-Star” certification audit in 2020. For example, these included the installation of the new CT scanners at the security checkpoints and the enhancement of digitalised processes, such as the use of biometrics, particularly in Terminal 2. Here, the clear and easily understandable navigation and the very high level of passenger comfort were also pointed out. Cleanliness was rated as the "best standard" in Europe. The "evident spirit" of all employees at Munich Airport was also praised. Future projects, like the modern Terminal 1 pier, measuring approximately 95,000 sqm by 360 m in length and scheduled to open by the end of 2025, also received positive recognition. All divisions and subsidiaries of Munich Airport were included in the assessment. “We consider ourselves a premium hub. The “5-Star” rating confirms this and makes us proud, but it also motivates us to become even better in order to remain one of the best airports in the world,” said Jost Lammers, CEO of Munich Airport. Commenting on the “5-Star Airport” rating, Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax said: “We are very impressed by the standards at Munich Airport, and with the constant improvement and progress the airport is achieving to both meet and surpass customer expectations. We are delighted to confer this highest quality accolade in recognition of the real team performance from Munich Airport staff, observed across all areas of the airport service and facilities.” "Not least due to the jointly operated Terminal 2 and satellite building, this outstanding award could be achieved once again. It is an expression of our unique cooperation and shared cohesion, the ‘Spirit Munich’. Our customers and our employees benefit equally from our “5-Star” partnership," says Jens Ritter, CEO of Lufthansa Airlines. The Bavarian airport first received the “5-Star Airport” title in May 2015 and repeated this success in 2017 and 2020. There are now eleven “5-Star Airports” worldwide. In Europe, only Munich Airport, Istanbul and Rome have been awarded the five stars. This spring, Munich Airport was already honoured with the "Best Airport Staff in Europe" and "Best Airport in Central Europe" awards at the prestigious Skytrax World Airport Awards. The awards are based on a survey of passengers from all over the world and thus reflect the feedback and opinions of around 8.8 million passengers surveyed from over 60 countries. In the global airport ranking, Bavaria’s international aviation hub is in seventh place and is thus the only German airport in the world top 10. – TradeArabia News Service
