Radisson Hotel Group has partnered with Dubai Can to install drinking water stations in Dubai, as part of its active role in key environmental and sustainable drives.

The initiative founded by the Crown Prince of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, was implemented to reduce the use of single-use plastic water bottles across Dubai. The partnership between Radisson Hotel Group and the Dubai Can Initiative will see the installation of a free drinking water station at Sports City.

Studies have shown that every UAE resident uses up to 450 plastic water bottles on average per year, resulting in a yearly consumption of over four billion plastic bottles in the UAE alone. In addition to this, The Pacific Institute for Studies in Development, Environment, and Security indicate that for every 100,000 one-litre plastic bottles eliminated 5,844 kg of plastic waste, 104 barrels of oil, and 17,532 kg of Co2 emissions are conserved.

Dubai Can is a city-wide initiative that motivates individuals, organisations, residents, and tourists to turn to reusable drinking bottles, through the multiple free drinking water fountains across the city. The installation of the water fountain at Sports City is only the beginning of the valuable participation of the Radisson Hotel Group in the Dubai Can initiative.

Tim Cordon, Radisson Hotel Group’s Chief Operating Officer for the Middle East and Africa, comments: “Over the past years, we at Radisson Hotel Group have implemented several practices and launched initiatives as part of our commitment to drive pro-environmental strategy. The irreversible ramifications of plastic on our environment are a major challenge to us today, and the Dubai Can initiative aims to defy this obstacle. We support the Crown Prince in this endeavor and we look forward to being a part of this ingenious step towards a greener UAE.”

At the recently-culminated COP27 in Egypt, Radisson Hotel Group reaffirmed its strong commitment to sustainability by signing the Glasgow Declaration and encouraging other hospitality groups to join the call for strong actions to halve emissions over the next decade and reach Net Zero emissions as soon as possible before 2050.

The group actively strives to reduce its carbon footprint with a strategy focused on energy efficiency and renewable energy as two key impact levers. The group aims to drive the travel and hospitality industry forward with more green travel options and plans to expand its network of 510+ electric car-charging stations across EMEA, in partnership with Allego, the leading pan-European provider of electric vehicle charging solutions.  - TradeArabia News Service
