Seatrade Cruise Global, the world’s largest cruise industry event took place in Miami from April 25 to 28, with thought-provoking forums and workshops exploring the latest trends. Several new vessels and itineraries were announced, alongside a brand-new event focusing on F&B 

 

Thousands of cruise executives, decision makers, thought leaders, suppliers and destinations from 110 countries came to the Miami Beach Convention Center for four days of networking, sourcing and education. The atmosphere was decidedly positive as the cruise industry begins building back to full strength, equipped with critical lessons learned over the last three years and revitalised with the enthusiasm of new and returning brands from across the supply chain.

 

F&B @ SEA
Seatrade Cruise Global has announced a new, immersive culinary and gastronomy experience debuting in 2023, to focus on food and beverage hospitality trends emerging at sea and on land.


Named F&B @ Sea, the two-day event dedicated to the food and beverage hospitality sector will be held at a unique venue a short walk away from the Miami Beach Convention Center.


“Extensive research by the Seatrade Cruise team identified the desire and demand for culinary-focused programming within the cruise community,” says Mary Bond, Group Director at Seatrade Cruise. “F&B @ Sea aims to close the gap with vendor showcases, networking, content and immersive demonstrations while bringing together cruise line executives and suppliers to meet, learn and discuss challenges, opportunities and expand horizons.”


Supported by Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) and Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA), the curated event will focus on key trends including elevated eateries, sustainability, handcrafted cocktails, technology, inflation and supply chain disruptions.

 

CUNARD
Cunard’s new ship Queen Anne will be the 249th ship to fly the Cunard flag since the company’s founding in 1839, and the first new build in 12 years.


World renowned designer Adam D. Tihany is the Creative Director and is working with a team of award-winning designers including David Collins Studio, Richmond International, and Sybille de Margerie. The design team tapped into the Cunard Archives in Liverpool to understand the brand’s storied history, using it for inspiration in the layout, fabrics, and textures for the new ship.


Captain Inger Klein Thorhauge has been named Queen Anne’s first captain. She was Cunard’s first female captain and celebrates 25 years of service with the company this year. Thorhauge will lead the team responsible for onboard operations and take charge for the new Queen’s maiden season. Queen Anne will set sail from Southampton to Lisbon on a seven-night maiden voyage in January 2024.

 

SEABOURN VENTURE
Seabourn launched an ultra-luxury purpose-built expedition ship called Seabourn Venture in April this year. The ship includes a plethora of modern hardware and technology with brand new innovative design created specifically for the ultra-luxury expedition traveller, and includes many features that have made Seabourn ships so successful.


A new and exciting offering will be two custom-built submarines carried onboard, providing an unforgettable view of the world beneath the ocean’s surface. The ship will feature 132 all veranda, all ocean-front suites.


Seabourn, the ultra-luxury cruise brand is offering world cruise in 2023 for 140 days calling at 61 fascinating landfalls on six continents. The ship remains overnight or lingers late in dozens of interesting destinations.

 

AMAWATERWAYS
Renowned for its variety of included excursions, personalised onboard service and unparalleled dining options, AmaWaterways’ 2023 sailings are set to be unforgettable journeys for returning guests and many new-to-river cruisers.


Among new itineraries launched for 2023, the most striking is are three epic, first-ever Seven River Journeys, taking guests through 14 countries over 45 or 46 nights for spring, summer and fall 2023.


Other new itineraries include a five-night Majestic Capitals of the Danube cruises visiting Budapest, Bratislava and Vienna with optional new land packages in Kraków, Poland or Salzburg, Austria. A seven-night Celebration of Classical Music voyage also on The Danube cruises between Budapest and Vienna with enriching concert experiences added to the program of included excursions.


Some new pre-and post-cruise land packages include a three-night St. Malo post-cruise land package with the Impressions of the Seine & Paris itinerary; and a three-night Geneva, Switzerland pre-cruise land package and three-night Nice, France post-cruise land package with the Essence of Burgundy & Provence itinerary.

 

SEADREAM YACHT CLUB
SeaDream Yacht Club announced the opening of all 2024 Mediterranean voyages on its newly renovated, luxurious yachts, SeaDream I and SeaDream II.


In May 2024, SeaDream kicks off its Mediterranean season, calling on 86 ports across 16 different countries. Voyages range from 6 to 12 nights, with opportunities to combine back-to-back itineraries without duplicating ports. Discover new destinations in 2024 including Crotone and Taranto, Italy; Tangier, Morocco; Vlore, Albania; Krk, Croatia; and Tunis, Tunisia.


“Given the small size of our vessels, we are able to access new and interesting destinations that larger ships simply can’t visit. We look for off-the-beaten path, hidden gems—and we find them,” SeaDream’s vice president of destinations Emilio Freeman said. Providing guests with an unhurried immersive experience to explore by day and night, SeaDream stays overnight in 12 different picturesque ports such as Amalfi, Hvar, Positano, Santorini, and Villefranche-sur-Mer.

 

SILVER NOVA
Silversea Cruises unveiled the latest insight on its fleet’s 11th ship, Silver Nova—scheduled for delivery in 2023. Built with a revolutionary asymmetrical design—a first for the cruise line—the new ship will offer guests an all-new outdoor spaces for an unprecedented openness to the destination, with a reimagined, outward-facing pool deck; an al fresco dining area; and a sky bar that offers panoramic views from the ship’s aft.


“Silver Nova represents the next iteration of Silversea’s unique take on luxury, with an entirely new design approach that will enhance our guests’ cruise experience,” said Roberto Martinoli, Silversea’s President and CEO. “With her outward-facing, asymmetrical layout and her all-new outdoor venues, Silver Nova will offer our guests a brand-new way to connect and engage with each destination. Moreover, with her ground-breaking environmental credentials, Silver Nova will strengthen our position at the forefront of sustainable cruise travel.”


Silver Nova’s asymmetrical design has enabled the creation of a reimagined pool area and unseen outdoor venues on decks 10 and 11. Each space places emphasis on the destination, with panoramic views that connect guests with the world beyond.


Silver Nova will push boundaries in ultra-luxury cruise travel with pioneering sustainability credentials. She is set to become the world’s first low-emissions cruise ship with advanced hybrid technology that utilises fuel cells, emitting zero harmful emissions while in port—an industry first.


Silver Nova will host up to 728 guests in 13 different suite categories—the largest variety of suites in Silversea’s history. Every suite on board will offer guests the use of a private veranda. Among the most spacious suites at sea, a new collection of prized aft suites will afford stunning 270-degree views on the destination. As well as Otium, the cruise line’s Roman-inspired wellness programme, and S.A.L.T., its immersive culinary offering, Silver Nova will offer guests Silversea’s trademark level of service and an array of pioneering, new features.
