Last month, the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) urged all the hotels in the emirate to ensure Kosher foods were available on room service menus and at all food & beverage outlets in their establishments. This move comes in the wake of Israel and the UAE announcing that they would fully normalise diplomatic relations, marking the first time a Gulf sovereign has formally recognised Israel since its creation. DCT Abu Dhabi’s circular instructed all hotel establishments to seek Kosher certification for handling kosher meals; to designate an area in all kitchens for Kosher food preparation; to label Kosher menu items with a clear and visible label/reference with a recognisable symbol that denotes ‘Kosher’, as per acquired certification.
