Over 455,000 shoppers enjoy 24-hour sale

Barging-hunting crowds of Abu Dhabi residents and visitors took full advantage of a 24-hour shopping extravaganza this week, as many of the emirate’s retailers dropped prices by as much as 90 per cent during an emirate-wide mall mega sale to celebrate the start of
Eid Al Fitr.

Organised by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), in collaboration with Abu Dhabi’s Department of Economic Development (DED), the sale kicked off on Friday, June 15 at 10am and ran until 10am on Saturday, June 16, marking an extra special start to Eid Fest celebrations, which were also enhanced by spectacular fireworks displays on Abu Dhabi’s Corniche, Yas Marina and in Al Ain.  

The quickfire shopping bonanza also featured a diverse line-up of events at malls across the emirate including a live performance of Pinkfong and Baby Shark with Teacher and their dancing friends in Bawadi Mall, Al Ain and fun-filled and popular performances at Yas Mall which attracted thousands of happy shoppers.

The shopping extravaganza boosted footfall to the 15 participating malls by 30 per cent compared to the same day last year, with more than 455,000 people flocking to enjoy the huge savings offered by the retailers. And the 24-hour mega mall sale also had a positive effect on the emirate’s hotels, with occupancy rates on the first day of Eid boosted by 5 per cent compared to 2017’s first day of Eid.

“The 24-hour Mall Mega Sale was a resounding success as both mall footfall and hotel occupancy receiving significant increases in numbers,” said HE Sultan Al Mutawa Al Dhaheri, executive director of Tourism Sector, DCT Abu Dhabi. “The promotions and offers, along with the performances which were aimed at entertaining all age groups, boosted both the retail and hospitality sectors in the emirate, and of course DCT Abu Dhabi’s plans continue on into the summer, with visitors and residents now looking forward to further promotions and offers during our popular Abu Dhabi Summer Season, which runs until August 18.”

The annual Abu Dhabi Summer Season (ADSS) started on June 21 with UAE residents and visitors now able to enjoy even more huge discounts in addition to a selection of superb performances, entertainment, and fun-filled family activities until August 18.
