The Donetsk Opera and Ballet Theatre’s performance is a must-see this season

Abu Dhabi Classics will light up the UAE capital's fast evolving arts and culture scene with two spectacular concerts from Korean rising star and Chopin competition gold medallist Seong-Jin Cho, and the first Emirati Ballerina Alia Al Neyadi, who will be performing alongside Donetsk Opera and Ballerina and Ballet Theatre, with Bolshoi Soloists Ivan Vasiliev & Ekaterina Krysanova.

Under the patronage of Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates, and organised by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, the Abu Dhabi Classics programme has so far seen overwhelming attendance from classical music enthusiasts, keen on experiencing performances at some of the most stunning locations across the emirate.

Seong-Jin Cho is set to take to the keys of his piano at The Arts Center at NYU Abu Dhabi on February 7, enriching the venue’s concert calendar by showcasing Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 8 and No.30, as well as additional sonatas by the artist’s muse, Chopin.

On February 8, Seong-Jin Cho will bring his charismatic artistry and predilection of Chopin to one the emirate’s most luxurious deserts escapes, the Qasr Al Sarab Resort by Anantara.  Audiences can anticipate an experience that provides a unique combination of a prolific concert venue in the heart of the Rub’Al Khaili desert, and compelling musicality from an international pianist, rapidly garnering popularity on the global classical performing arts scene.

The Donetsk Opera and Ballet Theatre’s performance is an unsurpassed production to conclude this season. This spectacular troupe of Ukraine-based performers will on April 20, bring to life the adventures of Conrad, chief of the pirates and his love interest, a young Greek woman named Medora at the majestic Emirates Palace. Classical romanticism merges with theatrical showmanship, setting the stage alight with an enthralling performance that every audience member is sure to enjoy.

In a one-of-a-kind one night spectacle, Emirati Ballerina and cultural curator Alia Al Neyadi will be joining the Donetsk Opera and Ballet Theatre at the Emirates Palace, showcasing her talent as one of the first UAE National performers to gain acclaim locally in her performing art form.

The last concert of the Abu Dhabi Classics 2017/2018 season promises an epic choreographed set by legendary Russian dancer and choreographer Yuri Grigorovich,  which not only includes aforementioned Alia Al Neyadi, but the capital will welcome leading dancers from the renowned Bolshoi Theatre, Ivan Vasiliev and Ekaterina Krisyanova. Also performing with the Donetsk Opera and Ballet Theatre, the two will bring to life the iconic dancing scenes depicting romance and adventure from Le Corsaire, a pirate tale and classical heritage ballet based on Lord Byron’s poem.
