Careem, a leading ride-hailing service in the Middle East and North Africa, has appointed Sandeep Shetty as senior vice president, operations.
In this role, Shetty will oversee the company’s supply operations along with its customer and Captain care network spanning multiple geographies, said a statement.
As Careem continues to scale rapidly, Shetty's focus will be on developing and implementing a standard operating model across the company, it said.
He brings to Careem a solid track record in operations, transformation and strategy, having spent 17 years primarily across GE Capital, McKinsey and Emirates NBD in senior leadership roles in the US, India and the Middle East.
Specifically, his role at Careem will entail the execution of a seamless onboarding process for Captains through the implementation of a standard network-wide operating model, which will enable Careem to scale up its operations rapidly at an expected growth rate of 25-30 percent every month. In addition, he will also be responsible for developing the right channel strategies for the company’s more than 1 million customer and Captain monthly interactions in multiple languages and countries, while ensuring execution of a distinctive experience for both customers and Captains through the care network.
"We are pleased to welcome Sandeep to the Careem family. With his leadership capabilities and extensive industry experience, we look forward to further strengthening our operating platform to better serve both our customers as well as our Captains whom we consider among the most important stakeholders of our business. With Sandeep onboard, we are excited to further consolidate our operational processes across all verticals, in line with our growth across the wider Middle East and North Africa, Turkey and Pakistan regions,” said Magnus Olsson, Co-founder of Careem.
Prior to joining Careem, Shetty spent five years at Emirates NBD where he led several end-to-end digital transformation initiatives for the bank and helped design and execute the creation of Tanfeeth, Emirates NBD’s shared services entity. He has also served at McKinsey's Dubai office for four years during which he worked on several operations and strategies for clients across the Middle East. Before McKinsey, he spent six years with GE Capital/Genpact as vice president.
Shetty holds Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Business Administration degrees from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), respectively. – TradeArabia News Service
