With the new summer timetable, passengers at Munich Airport can again choose from a wide range of attractive destinations all over the world.

Until October 24 this year, airlines have booked slots for around 224,000 flights to 228 destinations in 66 different countries. This represents 4,000 more flights than in the same period last year, or an increase of nearly 2 per cent. In addition to 16 German airports and 167 medium-range routes, scheduled services will be available to 45 intercontinental destinations.

The new timetable also features numerous new connections and additional flights on existing routes. For example, bmi regional will have two aircraft permanently stationed in Munich for the first time, enabling it to offer three flights a day to Rotterdam (Netherlands) and Bern (Switzerland) and two daily departures to Liège (Belgium). It is also doubling its services to Bristol (England) from six to 12 flights a week.

Munich Airport will also welcome two newcomers this summer: The Iranian carrier Mahan Air will offer three flights a week to Tehran. And starting in mid-July, three weekly non-stop connections will be offered by Kuwait Airways, which is also making its debut in Munich.

Lufthansa has an extensive range of destinations in its summer schedule that will appeal especially to holidaymakers departing from Munich: for example, once a week to Heraklion on Crete (Greece), Seville (Spain), Glasgow (Scotland) and Reykjavik (Iceland), and twice a week to Perugia (Italy). The German carrier is also resuming its service to Cairo with four weekly departures to the Egyptian capital.

There is also news from the Greek airline Aegean: It will depart from Munich twice a week for Larnaca on Cyprus – a destination also offered once a week by Germa- nia. Another city served weekly by Germania is the Black Sea resort of Burgas in Bulgaria. Easyjet is offering 13 flights a week from Munich to Rome.

The Spanish airline Vueling will connect Munich to Santiago de Compostela twice a week. Condor is flying to Enfidha in Tunisia for the first time, with one weekly departure, and Air Berlin will fly to Agadir in Morocco. Rijeka in Croatia will make its first ever appearance as a destination served from Munich with the launch of three weekly flights by Croatia Airlines.

Munich Airport now offers connections to more than 200 destinations all over the world and last year handled approximately 40 million passengers.

Featuring 104 passenger airlines offering direct flights to 297 destinations in 104 countries per week, Frankfurt Airport’s (FRA) summer timetable also boasts increased services, with direct connections to 141 destinations.

The total number of seats available at FRA will increase by 2.4 per cent to 820,000 seats per week and even by 3 per cent to 290,000 seats per week in the intercontinental segment. In particular, destinations in the US are becoming increasingly popular. FRA-based leisure carrier Condor will add two new US destinations in the 2015 summer schedule.

At its FRA base, Fraport welcomed about 60 million passengers last year. Almost half of Germany’s population lives within a 200-km radius of the FRA intermodal travel hub - the largest airport catchment area in Europe.
